Col. Tammy M. Knierim, USAF


Colonel Tammy Knierim is the current Professor of Aerospace Studies and the Commander of Air Force ROTC Detachment 645, The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.  She leads a cadre of officers and enlisted members responsible for recruiting, educating, training and motivating officer candidates for the United States Air Force.  


Colonel Knierim entered the Air Force in 1989 after graduating from John Carroll University and earning her commission through Officer Training School.  She has served in several assignments at the base, group, and headquarters levels in Air Mobility Command, Air Education and Training Command, Air Combat Command, Air Force Space Command and at Headquarters Air Force.  She has deployed in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.  Colonel Knierim has commanded at both the squadron and group level.  Following her tour on Air Staff, she commanded the 355th Communications Squadron at Davis Monthan AFB, Arizona after which time she became the 355th Deputy Mission Support Group Commander.  Colonel Knierim also served as the Commander, 319th Mission Support Group, Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota.

Second Lieutenant: 7 Nov 1989

First Lieutenant: 7 Nov 1991

Captain: 7 Nov 1999

Lieutenant Colonel: 1 March 2004

Colonel: 1 July 2009
